Now that only leaves us to speculate about the Chevrolet Sail price, there is a strong indication that it will be priced at Rs 6 lakh. So, if this is true than the Chevrolet Sail sedan will be up against every entry level sedans in India like Toyota Etios, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny and the likes.

Now coming details revealed by the spy shots of this moChevrolet Sail Sedan test mule caught in lenses, launch expected later this yeardel. These images of Chevrolet Sail Sedan  has shown that the sedan has a split grille that has the identity mark the Chevrolet bowtie sitting in the middle. If we look from the front the bonnet, the car looks broad and features a wide head light cluster along with round fog lamps, in addition to the regular wiper and an antenna on the roof.

Moving to the back side of Chevrolet Sail Sedan here the tail lights are shaped as a diamond and the stop lamp is adorning the lower side of back windscreen.  On the whole the rear portion of the car bears an interesting look. Though as it is going to be an entry level sedan the carmaker has gone ahead with black door handles, steel wheels, instead of the body coloured handles and alloy wheels. But these things should not put off the customer as model has really roomy interiors with a dual tone dash board.

Volvo S100 future model to go into production soon

Reports are that Swedish car maker, Volvo has released patent sketches of their upcoming luxury saloon Volvo S100. So now the fleet of this car manufacturer is bound to grow. As for this new model, we have been told that it draws a lot of inspiration from the new Volvo Universe concept that was showcased at the Shanghai Motor Show. As for competition this new luxury sedan will give BMW 7 series and similar high end models a run for their money.

So, these patent sketches definitely give an insight as to what this new sedan will look like once it goes in for production. Interestingly the rear end of both the concept and the drawings still carries that same look that we are familiar with, just the same as Volvo S60 or Volvo S80 that Volvo models that are currently available in India. However this is the only similarity that S100 has with the existing models otherwise this saloon has an exceptionally done up frontal look featuring steep cut design lines. The head lights and the grille that will adorn the front view of the model will match with each other and will  have a layered built. Interestingly to ease the passenger exit and entry into the cabin there will the suicide doors each opening in the opposite direction, do not be misled by the name these doors are very safe and secure only they require minimal effort to open and close.

This model will also feature converging alloy wheels at the center adding on a contrasting effect to the complete layout of the car model. Again this model will be certainly  a sight to behold as it will perfectly blend the rounded shape over the angular frame, so on the whole it is going to be strikingly different from any of the carmakers previous models. As already mentioned, the patent drawings are like the Volvo Universe concept, so we are hoping that the interiors of the Universe concept are also carried forward into this new model. Volvo XC60 is a high power SUV from the Volvo India.

Ford bolsters its terrain in India with 45 new dealerships

Ford India most of the time pulls up an act that surprises the spectators and car lovers alike and with something like this on their mind the carmaker is planning to have 45 new dealerships opening in a day!!The D day is Thursday, February 16. Definitely not a easy feat as there are quite a few car manufactures do not even have these many dealerships in all let alone to have so many in a single day. This move will most certainly strengthen the presence of this American Company in the country.

Many trade experts are viewing this move as a prelude to a new model launch, as last time when Ford had opened 28 dealerships across India it was accompanied by the launch of their model Ford Figo, so anticipation is high that we may see a new Ford model also launching with these new dealerships. However, official quarters have completely ruled out any such possibility so for the time being we can only say that Ford India trying to win over the customer confidence by providing efficient service facilities with the help these new outlets.

Though carmaker has categorically denied any new launch but we cannot help speculating that soon we will have a launch of Ford Ecosport. This model again has a potential to achieve the same success in its segment that Ford Figo managed to do a couple of years ago. Last month carmaker had unveiled Ford Ecosport at a grand event at Taj Palace in New Delhi, just a couple of days before the start of 2012 Auto Expo. This first look of the model has already established it as a very stylish and trendy SUV. As for the engine specifications official statements have states that the Ford Ecosport is powered by 1L 3-cylinder petrol engine That churns out maximum power of 120ps and 170Nm of maximum torque that is coupled with super low CO2 emission levels of 140g/km in India.

Maruti to offer higher margin to dealers for petrol variants

The rising petrol prices have created a dent in the sales numbers of the India’s leading car manufacturing company, Maruti Suzuki India. The huge inventory of Maruti petrol models is stocking up at the various dealerships with no takers. So, finally the car maker  accepting the situation and has allowed its dealers to have better margins so they proactively push the petrol cars sales.

Initially the auto manufacturer was almost caught on the wrong foot when there was sudden change in the consumer preference. However, now with the passage of time the carmaker has decided to face up the situation and take some steps to get back into the fray. So the carmaker is doling out 10% extra margin to the dealership that is translated to about Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 extra income for the sale of the every model. This extra income will totally depend on the model.

As for which model has Rs 1000 and which has Rs 2000 extra income, the popular ones like Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Estilo and Maruti Alto will give Rs 1000 extra while less popular Maruti A-Star petrol variant will enjoy an increased margin of up to Rs. 2000. Some models like the Wagon R had been a favoured model in the recent past and Maruti Wagon R pictures show that inspite of its box shaped structure it has nice roomy interiors preferred by most Indian customers. Coming back to this new offer, the trade expert explain that this higher margins on the petrol variant by Maruti Suzuki India is definitely going to bear fruits and the company may just manage to be back on track. The reason for this according them is that the dealers have a considerable influence on the final buying decision of the consumer and now with this extra margin benefit they will be definitely influence the car consumers to go for petrol cars. Also according experts inspite of high fuel prices buying a diesel vehicle is only a viable option if the monthly usage is more than 600 kms, so the consumer need to be shown this bigger picture so that they can make a prudent decision.

Indian government to levy one time road tax of 6 percent on cars

Indian government is mulling over a suggestion to have the automobile owners pay only one-time road tax that is equivalent to 6% of the sale price of the vehicle. So, this will definitely benefit the owners of the passenger cars and two wheelers owner across the country. Also there is also a proposal for the provision of collecting this tax online. Both these suggestions are very user friendly and convenient for the vehicle owners in the country. Though this suggestion is still under consideration and it remains to be seen when it will come in force and that is only possible if it is accepted by all the states in the country. The main motive behind this proposal is that the government’s wishes to rationalize tax collected on motor vehicles across the nation. Now popular cars like Maruti Swift Dzire , Mahindra Xylo will be more costly since the tax will be charged on the selling price.

Recently the Minister for Road Transport and Highway C.P. Joshi, informed that such a proposal is under consideration and the government has plans to bring on an uniform taxing system for the entire nation This will be an standardized amount which be calculated on the basis of the sales price of the vehicle and it will be equal to six percent of this sale price for two wheelers and cars in India.

The minister went on to add that this proposal is currently on high priority on the governments agenda and is going to be discussed in details across the various states in India. The urgency of this uniform tax is because currently there is no fixed criterion for this tax and it is different for different states leading to a lot of confusion and harassment of the customers. Additionally the government is planning to abolish the permit fee that was required on tourist vehicles, the government felt that revenue collected from this was not really worth the effort. If this permit gets removed it will definitely boost the sales of cars in India as many travel companies will love to buy these cars for use in tourism sector.

Hyundai lifts the cover off its show stopper Hyundai Elantra Coupe

The Hyundai Elantra is in the news once again, not a long time back this model was showcased at the North American International Auto Show, where it even won the title of the best looking car. This time we have reports that a new 2 door version of this model was put on display at the Chicago Auto show. All this simply shows that this Korean auto giant knows how to get in the news. So now we have both the four door sedan and a 2 door coupe grabbing the spotlight at two different events this year. But we all will have to wait for the launch to know the Hyundai Elantra price.

To start with the technical details of the coupe it is powered by 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces impressive power and torque numbers of  148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft respectively. This engine is the same that powers Elantra sedan. The power is greatly enhanced by Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) that adorns the engine along with the 6 speed automatic gearbox that powers the front wheels. Reports are that Hyundai will be bring out the Elantra in the US market in the second half of the year 2012.

This Korean car maker is already famous for its Fluidic model has continued with the same design lines while transforming the 4-door sedan to 2 door Hyundai Elantra Coupe. So a look at the pictures of this model shows how the doors of new Elantra are elongated as it is a coupe also the headlamps of the model look like sparkling gems on the model which looks lean as well as aggressive. As for thre fog lights they are faintly different with new designed trunk at the rear spoiler. As for the inside the cabin there are hardly any significant changes as compared to the sedan. Though with the increase in wheelbase and overall length of the car, the cabin space in this coupe is significantly more than the one we can see inside the cabins of Honda Civic Coupe and the Kia Forte.

Tata cars to take a toll on your pocket

So, the steeping input cast has finally forced the Indian auto giant Tata Motors to hike the prices of their models. The latest news coming from the company is that it will be increasing the cost of all of its car models except two models namely the Tata Nano and Tata Aria. Monetarily the customers will now have to shell out more money in the range of Rs 7000 to Rs 12000 to any of the company’s model. Depreciating value of the Indian Rupee is also to be blamed for this rise in prices as economically a price hike reduces the impact of the currency fluctuations.

These new prices have been come into force from February 10, 2012 across the country. Tata Motors is one of the last carmakers to hike the prices of the model. A main reason for this was the fact that the carmaker was struggling with lesser demand of Tata cars in India during that time. But the New Year was marked with an impressive growth figure of around 16 percent in the month of January.

Most of the auto cos had increased the prices of their models with the onset of the year 2012, some of the companies that were left out like Maruti, Toyota and a few more waited for some more time but then they also announced a price hike. So the first month of this year was marked by most of the car companies announcing the hike in prices. Tata Motors is one of the last companies to join the band wagon. As per the percentage this hike is somewhere in the range of 1 % to 2.5 %. Most of the people are expecting that with most of the companies now announcing the price rise now there will be a stability in car prices for some time, it just may not be so. A lot is going to depend on the policies for the car industry in the next budget.

Tata Motors hikes the prices of its cars

So, here we have more carmaker making an announcement of increasing the prices of their models. The makers of Tata Nano, world’s cheapest car, Tata Motors have raised the prices of all their models with the  exception of  two of their models Tata Nano and Tata Aria. Just like all the others the car maker has blamed the rising input costs for this price hike. This price  increase is ranging between Rs 7000 and Rs 12000. This new price tag has come in force by immediate effect.

Tata Motors only recently got the strategy for Tata Nano in place and it was only after 2012 Tata Nano was launched that this Tata Nano has clocked good sales numbers. At the Auto Expo 2012, the company introduced Tata Nano CNG, which would give a sigh of relief as the petrol prices are soaring high. Even this new model is expected to continue the image of Tata Nano being the cheapest passenger car in the world. Though Tata Motors had initially deferred the price hike in wake of the dismal sales numbers of its models but the remarkable sales number of the Tata Models in the first month of this year 2012 has encouraged the carmaker a great deal. Most of the auto companies have increased the prices of their models some did it from the first of January itsef but a few like Maruti, Toyota etc waited for a while before announcing the price hike.

Though Tata Motors is one of the last carmaker to hike the prices and this hike in percentage is in the range of 1 to 2.5 percent. From the looks of it these may be bring stability in prices of the car models. However the trade analysts are not so optimistic the upcoming Union Budget of the government may have something in store for the automotive Industry. The recent reports have come out that the cost of the diesel cars may show an upward trend as government may hike the excise duty on these models.

Mercedes Benz combo of city and titan "Citan" on cards

News coming from the stables of Mercedes-Benz is that they are going to come up with a new mini-van The name of this model ‘Citan’ was revealed at an event held at the Mercedes-Benz Design Center in Sindelfingen and according to the carmaker this name is a combination of the words "city" and "titan," which means that the vehicle is going to be a specialist for city logistics. The carmaker is trying to make it a model that will meet the tough challenges faced in day-to-day operations.

A set of trade experts are of the opinion that this new mini-van by Mercedes-Benz will be based on the Nissan Evalia or the model code named as Nissan NV200. Recently the official sketches of this mini van that were unveiled by the carmaker have given rise to these speculations. As for the debut of this model it expected to take place at the renowned IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover in the month of September 2012 and this model will be up for sale by the end of this year. Though we do not have an official confirmation but from  German auto giant has earlier mentioned that it is developing a small van in collaboration with Renault-Nissan.

The carmaker is very upbeat with this new van series which they think will boost sales and will be one more series in Mercedes-Benz family of vans. But if the reports of the collaboration of the three auto giants are true than the trio will work further on projects for small vans and cars, which will begin from platform development and will go upto powertrain sharing. Coming back to Mercedes Benz’s mini van Mercedes Benz Citan pictures show that this model has a striking resemblance with Nissan Evalia a model that was showcased at 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi.

Mahindra Xylo face-lifted version coming on 8 February

2012 seems like the year of facelifts!  Every car manufacturer in order to increase the sales volume is coming up with mid-life facelifts of its car models. Following the trend Mahindra and Mahindra is coming up with the face-lifted version of its MPV, Mahindra Xylo. The new Mahindra Xylo will sizzle the Indian car market and is going to launch on 8th February 2012.

2012 Mahindra Xylo has undergone rigorous testing and for the longest period of time before its launch, seems like Mahindra is not going to take any chances with the new version of their happy legs car.  The new  Xylo will come with two engine namely 2.2 litre of mEagle common rail turbo diesel engine churning out peak power of 112 BHP along with 2.2 litre of direct injection diesel engine producing 95 BHP of peak power.  It can also be based on current engines which have altered cylinders and hardware which also supports Mini Xylo MPV.  With a length of less than 4 meters, the new will have its extra wheel fixed on the rear gate, the 2012 Mahindra Xylo price is still speculated.

The exteriors of the new Xylo are revamped meaning refreshed headlamps, new bonnet, redesigned front bumper and a new chic grille. Overall the Mahindra will definitely be more stylish and comfortable to appeal to the Indian audience. Mahindra is very hush with the whole plan about the Mahindra Xylo Mini as Mahindra is very new to the small car manufacturing sector but have been a big player in the body types like MUVs, MPVs and SUVs. As per the rumors the Xylo Mini will be five doors and will likely to come under the tag of SUV and not a hatchback. The only question left for the future is will Mahindra Xylo be able to compete against the Multijet powered Rio?

Maruti Alto bags the best selling small car award

Foiling the attempts of all the competitors to dethrone it from the spot of the best selling model, Maruti Alto has once again proved that it is the best. The model has been recognized as the world's best-selling small car for one more time. For all the Maruti Alto fans it is good news that this model has won the title of world best selling small car for second time in a row. As for the statistics the small car has won this title for the year 2011 by selling an impressive 3,11,367 units in India till date. Records just are made for this model because it is the only car that has managed to cross the 3,00,000 sales mark.

The model was clear winner with its nearest rival way behind with numbers even under the 3,00, 000 mark. The nearest rival was Volkswagen Golf that registered a sale of 2,93, 454 units while the third spot was secured by Fiat’s small hatch Uno which sold 273,537 units. If these names sound unfamiliar both the models VW Golf and Fiat Uno are selling like hot cakes in the Brazilian car market and their success there has helped them in secure spot among the top three best selling small cars of the world. The major reason for the success of this model is Maruti Alto price that is highly economical.

Elated by the achievement Chief of Maruti Suzuki India Mayank Pareek said that Maruti Alto proved that it is the undisputed leader in the small car segment and it will take some time for the new car to even match up to its number let alone removing it from the top spot. Even the recently highly publicised Hyundai Eon or any other small car has failed to impress and win over the confidence of the indian customers that Maruti Alto has managed to build over the years. Though detractors may say that it lacks the fluidic design but Maruti Alto pictures show that it has all that it takes to impress the Indian customers. Industry trend shows that the small cars usually score impressive sales figure in the emerging car markets. Currently the two significant emerging car markets of the world are India and Brazil, so every car maker is eyeing the two countries as their potential markets. It may come is as a surprise that Maruti’s Alto has beaten the likes of renowned international brands VW and Fiat to be adjudged the highest selling model of the World!!

The outgoing DZire, was slightly longer with 4.2 metres length and had the price band of Rs 5.05 lakh to Rs 7.40 lakh in the Indian car market. Compact version of Dzire is part of the trend of introducing compact versions of popular models by many leading car makers in the country. The reason for this is that cars up to 4 metres have to pay as 10% excise duty while longer passenger vehicles are charged 22% as the excise duty in India.

This new Swift Dzire CS would be competing some of the popular sedans like Toyota Etios, Ford Fiesta Classic, Hyundai Accent, Mahindra Verito and Tata Manza. The really winning feature of this model is going to be its feul economy rates, its petrol variant would deliver a fuel efficiency of 19.1 km/litre, while diesel DZire would travel 23.4 km for one litre of fuel. Reports are that carmaker along with its vendors has put in more than Rs 230 crore for the new Maruti Swift Dzire CS and the company has also given a very lucrative offer to customers who have booked the older car to shift for the new model.
